OSU had a historical 2011 campaign that featured OSU's first-ever Big 12 Championship, a school record 12 wins, two first-round draft picks, six All-Americans and being ranked nationally in the Top 10 the entire season. Since that point, the eyes of college football have focused on Oklahoma State and the national spotlight has shined on Stillwater. Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 13 of the past 15 seasons.
The Oklahoma State program has made 21 bowl appearances in the last 22 seasons. Numerous Cowboys have earned national awards over the years. Oklahoma State is one of only two schools in the country to have three Biletinikoff award winners. Justin Blackmon won back-to-back Biletnikoff Awards as the nation's best receiver playing for OSU in 2010 and 2011 and was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Hall of Fame running backs Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas made their marks on the game right here at Oklahoma State. All Pro Dallas Cowboy kicker and former OSU standout Dan Bailey captured the 2010 Lou Groza Award for the nation’s top kick. In 2008, Matt Fodge won the Ray Guy Award for the nation’s top punter.
OSU produced the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner when Sanders re-wrote the NCAA record books. Sanders, who was featured on the 2013 EA Sports NCAA Football video game cover, went on to become one of the greatest backs to ever play the game. The Cowboys have played in 33 bowls dating back to their first appearance against TCU in the 1945 Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma State has an all-time bowl winning percentage, which ranks among the elite nationally.
