Oklahoma State has emerged as one of the nation’s elite football programs under head coach Mike Gundy. The Cowboys have advanced to a school-record 18 consecutive bowls including the program's first-ever BCS appearance in 2011. OSU has averaged nearly 10 wins a season since 2010 and produced six first-round NFL draft picks since 2009.

The Cowboys have recorded seven double-digit win seasons since 2010. OSU had a historical 2011 campaign that featured OSU's first-ever Big 12 Championship, a school record 12 wins, two first-round draft picks, six All-Americans and being ranked nationally in the Top 10 the entire season. Since that point, the eyes of college football have focused on Oklahoma State and the national spotlight has shined on Stillwater. Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 13 of the past 15 seasons.

The Oklahoma State program has made 21 bowl appearances in the last 22 seasons. Numerous Cowboys have earned national awards over the years. In 2023, sophomore Ollie Gordon II captured the schools first Doak Walker award. Entering Bowl Season, Gordon leads the FBS in several major categories including rushing yards, yards from scrimmage, 100-yard rushing games, 150-yard rushing games, 250-yard rushing games and carries of at least 30 yards, 40 yards and 70 yards. He is second in rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns and all-purpose yards. In 2017, Mason Rudolph and James Washington earned national recognition as two of top players in college football. Rudolph was named the 2017 Unitas Golden Arm recipient and took home the FCA Bobby Bowden trophy. Washington led the nation in receiving yards and won the 2017 Biletnikoff trophy. Oklahoma State is one of only two schools in the country to have three Biletinikoff award winners. Justin Blackmon won back-to-back Biletnikoff Awards as the nation's best receiver playing for OSU in 2010 and 2011 and was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Hall of Fame running backs Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas made their marks on the game right here at Oklahoma State. All Pro Dallas Cowboy kicker and former OSU standout Dan Bailey captured the 2010 Lou Groza Award for the nation’s top kick. In 2008, Matt Fodge won the Ray Guy Award for the nation’s top punter.

OSU produced the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner when Sanders re-wrote the NCAA record books. Sanders, who was featured on the 2013 EA Sports NCAA Football video game cover, went on to become one of the greatest backs to ever play the game. The Cowboys have played in 33 bowls dating back to their first appearance against TCU in the 1945 Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma State has an all-time bowl winning percentage, which ranks among the elite nationally.

From his playing days in the late 1980s to his outstanding coaching career, Mike Gundy has had the greatest impact on Oklahoma State football of any individual. Nearly 30 years of dedicated service and commitment to OSU have made him a true Cowboy. In 2011, Gundy signed a lifetime contract with the program to secure his future in Stillwater.

To come back and be around these guys that I came in with - I knew the heart that they have to go out every day and play on Saturday for each other. That's just something that I wanted to continue to be around. Coming back for another year, it couldn't hurt me, it could only do me right."

- Justin Gilbert,
